About the film
Actors: Aidan Gillen, Lucy Boynton, Tom Hollander, Rami Malek, Mike MyersBOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet.
BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY chronicles Freddie Mercury and Queen's life and times, anchored by Mr. Robot actor Rami Malek's astonishing embodiment of Mercury and an ensemble cast that includes Lucy Boynton and Gwilym Lee.
Malek is exceptional. He wore fake teeth to capture the four extra incisors in Mercury’s upper jaw that the singer insisted gave him more power and range. And he nails the frontman’s sexual bravado onstage, with his cropped hair and porn-star mustache.
Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara of Parsi descent, went from baggage handler at Heathrow Airport to co-founder of Queen with guitarist/astrophysics scholar Brian May (Gwilym Lee) and drummer/dental student Roger Taylor (Ben Hardy) after an impromptu audition for the musicians in a parking lot.
Queen's masterful music didn't just materialize from nowhere, it was crafted, honed and toyed with. Mercury wasn't a music box on legs, he was someone with passions, desires, regrets and triumphs. And Queen's 1985 Live Aid performance, regarded as one of the best live rock shows of all time, didn't just happen because of good fortune. It took skill, passion and a whole lot of daring.
Freddie was an icon multiple times over - as a cultural icon, as a musician, as a man with impeccable fashion sense - and BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY dives into the real and utterly fascinating person behind the titan.
