About the film

Release Date: Aug 23, 2018
Director: Bill Holderman
Actors: Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda
The white wine budget for Bill Holderman’s directorial debut, the amiable Book Club, must have been staggering.
For the quartet of accomplished sexagenarian characters in this glossy rom-com, the S&M erotica 'Fifty Shades of Grey' is not just reading material for their monthly book club but a catalyst for seismic change. By following Anastasia Steele’s sexual awakening, they find themselves on their own journeys of self-discovery (or rediscovery). Who knew falling under the illicit spell of a softcore erotica could be life-changing?
But let me tell you, these four women — a recent widow (Diane Keaton), a commitment-phobe who’s busy having sex and being fabulous (Jane Fonda), a federal judge who does not having any sex (Candice Bergen), and a frustrated wife who is experiencing marital boredom in the bedroom (Mary Steenburgen) — are rocked.
It’s an enjoyable film with homes worthy of Architectural Digest, beautifully arranged and plentiful snacks and dishy male suitors; Andy Garcia (a millionaire inventor who’s a commercial airline pilot for fun – not many of them in Adelaide) and the timeless/ageless Don Johnson.

Best enjoyed with a bottle of perfectly chilled Chardonnay. Drink every time someone hoists a goblet of crisp, chill white wine.
