About the film
Release Date: May 17, 2018
Director: Ben Howling
Actors: Martin Freeman, Anthony Hayes, Susie PorterIs the Zombie apocalypse genre still alive and well?
We think so, with this great film set in the near-future Australian Outback.
Don’t be fooled. Cargo leans more to the respectable side of the genre – with the vibe being more intense psychological drama than horror.
Co-written and co-directed by Yolanda Ramke and Ben Howling, “Cargo” was expanded from a short film the pair released to great success in 2013.
The film opens with Andy (Martin Freeman) and his wife Kay (Susie Porter), who live on a houseboat with their infant daughter, Rosie. Post zombie infection, the film is expertly framed through the experiences of an ordinary man who is trying to get his infant daughter to safety.
And the clock is ticking. He has just 48 hours.
The ever-charismatic Martin Freeman is outstanding and brings to the film a real emotional edge. There are brazen political undertones about the zombie plague’s origin story through hints of the land being poisoned by modern colonist greed.
This film packs a punch.
