About the film
Director: Justin Baldoni
Actors: Haley Lu Richardson, Cole SprouseBased on a YA novel by Rachael Lippincott, Five Feet Apart follows Stella (Haley Lu Richardson, Split), a bright, optimistic 17-year-old who has been dealing with cystic fibrosis since childhood and uses YouTube videos to post about her disease.
We meet Stela when she’s just landed in the hospital for yet another extended stay. She wastes no time decorating her room, colour-coding her pills and vlogging online. She's perky and organsied. Everything goes out the window with the arrival of Will (Cole Sprouse, Riverdale), a fellow teen who is sarcastic, vaguely rebellious and smolderingly handsome. Every young woman’s dream. Will and Stella must remain five feet apart at all times or risk infection. They can’t hold hands or even kiss – it’s bloody awful. As the romantic stakes are raised and a personal tragedy befalls Stella, the five-foot limit becomes increasingly cavernous, calling to question whether the couple can survive the limits of their illness and their relationship alike.
Richardson is an exceptional talent, conveying soul and depth beyond her years.
