Release Date: May 31, 2018
Director: Edouard Deluc
Actors: Malik Zidi, Tuheï Adams, Vincent Cassel
The powerful French actor Vincent Cassel stars as the post-impressionist painter Paul Gauguin during his Polynesian period in this biopic from French writer-director Edouard Deluc.

“There’s no more face or landscape worth painting here,” says Gauguin in Paris just before he leaves for Oceania. Indeed, his best work yet to come.

The Film focuses on the period in the late 19th century when a destitute Gauguin left his wife and family in Paris in exchange for career-defining inspiration — and a new young bride — in Tahiti. We’re not sure that Gauguin was as committed to his young bride as the film suggests – but let’s just go with that for now.

This is a fascinating period in Gauguin’s life that explores the artist’s intention - to live just like a local. Is this kind of a fool’s dream for a Frenchman in French Polynesia? A remarkable lead performance by Cassel in a character driven biopic that’s most definitely worth catching.
