About the film
Release Date: Nov 8, 2018
Director: Fede Alvarez
Actors: Claire Foy, Sylvia Hoeks, Sverrir Gudnason , Lakeith StanfieldAuthor Stieg Larsson's avenging angel Lisbeth Salander is back.
Played by Claire Foy (A long way from Queen Liz in the The Crown), Salander is a vigilante who protects women and relentlessly hunts the men who hurt them. The punishments she deals to the predators she catches in her web are clever, brutally ironic and built to last. She lives by a personal code, and she's driven by the traumas she has survived and by the people she cares for.
Fans of the Millennium books will know that The Girl In The Spider's Web is actually the fourth book in the series, written by fellow Swede David Lagercrantz after author Stieg Larsson died in 2004. Lagercrantz’s masterstroke was to pick up on a brief mention of Lisbeth’s twin sister Camilla (in Larsson’s second book) and wheel her on as Lisbeth’s nemesis. Blonde and groomed where her sister is dark and leather-clad, Camilla is played with cool abandon by Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049).
Directed with gun-to-the-head urgency by Fede Álvarez (DON'T BREATHE) and co-starring Sverrir Gudnason (BORG VS MCENROE) and LaKeith Stanfield (SORRY TO BOTHER YOU), THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB is a bleak, beautiful, brutal thriller.
Cinematographer Pedro Luque’s whooshing camera follows Lisbeth across a Swedish obstacle course of icy roads, motorcycle chases and exploding buildings, the “Girl” tries to escape the spider’s web. Will she? There’s little doubt.
