Release Date: Mar 7, 2019
Director: Michael Mayer
Actors: Juan Diego Flórez , Diana Damrau
Worldly courtesan Violetta has grown tired of her dissolute life. When the pure-hearted Alfredo declares his love for her, she leaves everything behind to live with him, until the fear of family scandal threatens to tear apart the young lovers and everything they hold dear.
Acclaimed new Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Michael Mayer’s richly textured new production, featuring a dazzling 18th-century setting that changes with the seasons. Soprano Diana Damrau plays the tragic heroine, Violetta, and tenor Juan Diego Flórez returns to the Met for the first time in five seasons to sing the role of Alfredo, Violetta’s hapless lover. Baritone Quinn Kelsey is Alfredo’s father, Germont, who destroys their love.

Michael Mayer’s production is presented a jewel-toned pallete of sumptuous fabrics and textures: gilded filigree, rustling dresses, glitter and light.
It’s a Demi Monde After All!

Performed in Italian with English Subtitles.
