About the film
Director: Otto Bathurst
Actors: Jamie Dornan, Taron Egerton, Jamie Foxx"There are no tights. This is grown man business.” - Jamie Foxx
KINGSMAN star Taron Egerton steps up to save England once again. Rather than an impeccably dressed gentleman spy, he's playing none other than the legendary outlaw ROBIN HOOD.
This new reimagining of Robin Hood takes place in a gritty, violent Medieval England, with lots of swords super-fast archery, fashionable battle armour and chic fascist-wear.
So, it’s not your grandma’s Robin Hood – we’re talking less Merry Men and dancing forest friends, and more Fast and the Furious but with horses and flaming arrows. Gone are Sherwood Forest and Robin’s beloved merry men, replaced by the fire and brimstone of Nottingham mines and the crushing power of the church.
In this version of the story, Robin of Loxley (Taron Egerton) is a young man of noble birth, who is sent away to fight in the Crusades and has his land stolen from him by the Sheriff of Nottingham (Ben Mendelsohn) in his absence. What’s more, his sweetie Marian (Eve Hewson), thinking he was dead, has coupled up with a dully handsome aspiring politician. Upon his return, he teams up with John (Jamie Foxx), the Moorish prisoner he freed during the war, and they plot a way to get their revenge, primarily by defunding the Crusades and giving the war chest back to the overtaxed peasants.
It soon grows into a full-blown revolution.
Egerton, Foxx, and Mendelsohn are joined by a hard-hitting cast that includes FIFTY SHADES' Jamie Dornan, THE KNICK's Eve Hewson, and the great Australian comedian/musician Tim Minchin (JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR). Minchin is a delight at Friar Tuck and one of the highlights of the film.
Between its cast and its explosively stylish action choreography, ROBIN HOOD is a sure shot.
