When a dream cruise trip bound for the Caribbean takes a dark turn, a mother sets out on a quest for justice in this intense, suspenseful drama starring a stellar Trine Dyrholm (Margrete – Queen of the North).

A single mother, 42-year-old Nanna (Dyrholm) has invited her daughter Cille and Cille’s best friend on a cruise to celebrate her 18th birthday. The expectations are high, the drinks are flowing, and they have big plans set for their days on board the cruise. But on the first evening, the dream holiday turns into a nightmare. The next morning Cille is missing for a time, but once they find her, it appears that something terrible happened the night before. When nothing is done about the situation, Nanna soon realises that in order to get justice, she must take matters into her own hands.

Filled with unexpected twists and turns, Birthday Girl is an engaging, emotionally tumultuous mother-daughter drama with thriller elements directed by Michael Noer (Papillon).
