A moody, chilling and twisted thriller to leave you buzzing, this adaptation of Icelandic crime-author Yrsa Sigurdardottir’s bestselling novel centres on detective Óðinn Hafsteinsson (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Game of Thrones, The Last Kingdom) who lives alone with his teenage daughter Rún. He works for a state-run regulatory body where he is assigned the task of researching the Krókur juvenile home, which was run by the state in the 1980s. Krókur was no ordinary teenage home, and one of its unsolved mysteries is the death of two boys, which at the time was declared an accident.

When Óðinn begins to investigate the matter, he uncovers dark secrets and strange events begin to shake up his and Rún’s daily life. But are these events related to the tragedy at the treatment centre, or do they have something to do with the mysterious suicide of his ex-wife a few months earlier? While Óðinn digs deeper into these mysteries, we are given a glimpse of Krókur in 1984 from the perspective of Aldís, a young maid who works there.
