The New Boy
The New Boy
Set in 1940s Australia, The New Boy is the story of a nine-year-old Aboriginal orphan boy who arrives in the dead of night at a remote monastery, run by a renegade nun (Cate Blanchett). His presence disturbs the delicately balanced world in this story of spiritual struggle and the cost of survival.
The only Australian film in competition for the Un Certain Regard at Cannes Film Festival, Warwick Thornton's (Samson and Delilah, Sweet Country) The New Boy is an eerie, ethereal drama with gripping performances from Blanchett, newcomer Aswan Reid, Deborah Mailman, and Wayne Blair.
