About the film
Director: Pierre Salvadori
Actors: Adèle Haenel, Pio Marmaï, Audrey Tautou, Damien Bonnard, Vincent ElbazOne of the biggest audience hits of Cannes 2018 (where it premiered as the centerpiece of the Directors’ Fortnight section), this sparkling new screwball comedy from French cinema’s master of the genre Pierre Salvadori (Wild Target, Après Vous, Priceless) is an irresistible mix of laughs, action and romance.
The Trouble With You begins as any cop comedy would: with a bedtime story. Before saying bonne nuit to her son each night, Yvonne, the wonderful Adèle Haenel (The Unknown Girl, BPM) tells him about his brave father, the local police chief who was killed in the line of duty. Soon after his death, Yvonne discovers that her husband was a corrupt cop and that a majority of their marriage had been a lie. Yvonne then comes face to face with her husband’s corruption as Antoine Parent (Pio Marmaï), a man who was framed by her husband for a crime he didn’t commit, is released from prison. She becomes inexplicably drawn to him, feeling personally responsible for his broken character, and she relates to Antoine’s struggle in a world that no longer makes sense. And fans of Amélie will be glad to know that French star Audrey Tautou tenderly portrays Antoine’s wife, Agnès.
A resounding critical and box office success in France, The Trouble With You is a rollicking, outrageously funny ride with a bit of a wild side.
