About the film

Release Date: Jul 26, 2018
Director: Kevin Macdonald
Actors: Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston, at her best was pure magic.

Kevin Macdonald’s new, estate-authorised documentary and back-stage pass Whitney, honors Houston’s talent, while exposing a staggering amount of pain. This is an uneasy story to unravel.
A church girl from Newark, New Jersey who went on to worldwide fame throughout a meteoric career that ended much too soon.
Houston’s problems with drugs were common knowledge and her personal life was consistently fraught with pain and disillusionment.

Macdonald interviewed more than 70 subjects, many of them close friends and family of Houston and retains a respectful and sympathetic tone throughout and the finesse with which he crafts his doc makes for an absorbing and moving portrayal.

Whitney is a cultural treasure and fans don’t want drugs to dominate the discussion. There’s plenty of Houston's music, together with truly enjoyable moments. But there's a fine line between pleasure and pain. We all know what’s coming.
