Australian premiere

Written and directed by dynamic Italian actress and singer Margherita Vicario, Gloria! depicts the music-fuelled story of an overlooked maid at a Venetian refuge whose hidden talent helps inspire an uprising.

1800. Teresa (rising star Galatéa Bellugi, The Taste of Things) is a gifted young songsmith who endures Cinderella-like status at the Sant’Ignazio Institute - a religious institution for girls. There, residents are musically trained by stern chapel master Perlina (Paolo Rossi).

One day, a local craftsman gifts the Institute with a modern and immediately distrusted instrument: a piano. Relegated to the basement, Teresa finds it and begins to explore the keys, unlocking her musical abilities and attracting the attention of the girls upstairs. When news arrives of an imminent visit by the new Pope, the college is thrown into chaos. With Perlina distracted, the girls gather secretly, taking turns on the piano where they begin to compose something new and exciting.

Celebrating the lives of Italian women written out of the pages of music history, Gloria! is a foot-stomping fun ride not to be missed.
